HARVEY REID'S EARLIEST RECORDINGS (#101 & #102)

NOTE: These 2 LP's have been unavailable for almost 15 years. We have a few copies for sale on vinyl-- and have transferred them both to digital, so the music on them is now available for sale. It's priced on a per-song basis, and in our Custom CD's you will be able to order specific songs off the web site. You can order from the out-of-print catalog, plus some selected goodies including out-takes, live cuts and historic things. These songs will be burned onto a CD that will be mailed to you.We will not offer them as MP3 files, but you will have access to this out-of-print music, as well as an increasing number of out-takes, live cuts, and rare or historic things we have in our vaults. With each custom CD you will get color art work & track information (for the LP's below, we make you a jewel box CD for $20 with full color art taken directly from the LP jacket) With custom CD's you also get credits and very detailed historical information about date, location & personnel surrounding each song you purchase.


Nothin But Guitar cover

#101- Harvey's first recording, a guitar instrumental LP titled Nothin' But Guitar was released in Fall of 1982. Nine of its 16 cuts were re-released (all but one of them re-recorded) on #105 Solo Guitar Sketchbook. Three or four of the remaining missing cuts are hopefully to be included on a collection of partial capo music. It was never released on CD or tape. (Wildwood Flower was re-released on the 2002 compilation #116- "Dreamer or Believer" (in print as 2CD set) This LP is the first recording to feature the partial capoed guitar. (tracks that use the Third Hand Capo are marked with *) It was recorded direct- to 2-track analog superbly engineered by Ron Freeland and recorded at TRACK Studios in Silver Spring MD in 1981 and 1982, using Neumann mikes, a Neve console, and Ampex 2-track analog tape with Dolby A and EMT plate reverb. Only 2000 copies were pressed.Tracks marked with (+) have not reen re-released or re-recorded.

Very Old Song Cover

#102- A Very Old Song was released in Fall of 1984. There were 2000 copies pressed. It was Harvey's only multi-track studio recording until a few cuts were done in multi-track in 1998 on #113. Harvey plays 6 and 12-string guitar, slide guitar and autoharp and sings, and wrote all the songs. Al Petteway plays bass, Lynn Rothermich sings harmony, Rick Watson plays piano and sings, Akira Otsuka plays mandolin, Brian Silber plays violin and viola, and Robbie Flint (in the Alan Jackson band for many years) plays pedal steel on 2 tracks, The LP contained 10 cuts, and only "Johnny the Fisherman" has been released on CD, though newer recordings exist of different performances of all but 2 of the songs. #102 was never released on CD or tape. The songs marked * do not appear anywhere else.

It was also engineered by Ron Freeland and recorded at TRACK Studios in Silver Spring MD in 1982 and 1983, using Neumann mikes, a Neve console, to Ampex 2-inch 16-track analog tape with Dolby A and EMT plate reverb. (TRACK Studios is also where the famous "JD Crowe & the New South" LP was recorded with Ricky Skaggs, Bobby Hicks, Jerry Douglas, Tony Rice and JD, and Linda Ronstadt's epic"Heart Like A Wheel" was also recorded there.
